All The King's Horses Children's Ranch
"All the King's Horses, His women and men with the King put broken children together again."
Al and Daina Valenzuela are local folks with a highly-respected reputation in the area. They have been married since 1988 and are both involved in their church working with youth of all ages. Originally introduced to the Ranch in 2003, Daina helped round up children for the annual week-long summer camp. Once the Ranch obtained land, they were involved with the Jesus Birth Celebration each December. As the Ranch progressed and the need for house parents came up, Al mentioned that maybe they should apply. Daina replied,
“Are you crazy?!”
But the seed was planted. Currently parenting a grandchild, they compromised in 2011 and became the “away” respite house parents. In other words, when house parents have an extended vacation away from the Ranch, the Valenzuela’s move into that home and fill in for days at a time.
Daina said that as a child she especially liked reading about her two favorite characters: Pippi Longstocking and Florence Nightingale. Now she says she feels like a combination of both of their strong attributes. “Florence rescued people,” Daina explained, “and Pippi didn’t take anything too serious while remaining childlike. I get to do both of those things while parenting these children.”
In 2013 Al and Daina became Full-Time House Parents. They love the peace and quiet of the land as they get to see God lift the darkness off of the children one layer at a time.
With hearts like these, we understand why this special couple holds the high reputation they do. We are very blessed to have them.
